Biography
Born in 1952 in São Paulo, Brazil. Sergio decided to pursue his interest in photography after a 25-year career in the coffee business. His focus on food stems from his interest in flavours and aesthetics, in particular the relationship between light and texture. Coimbra’s passion for photography has always been paralleled by his activities as coffee specialist. After learning from great masters of photography in New York and Brazil, he decided to make his own way by creating STUDIO SC in the heart of São Paulo, the gastronomic capital of Brazil. His dream was to open a space dedicated to chefs and food experts. In 2010 he established STUDIO SC, the first Food Photography Studio in South America, and probably one of the few in the world to devote 100% of its attention to food as an expression of art. Sergio has published several books with renowned chefs, amongst which:
- Studio SC Book
- Gilbert Scott with Marcus Wareing, Transworld publisher
- Cozinha de Vanguarda, with Felipe Bronze, Sextante publisher.
- D.O.M.; Rediscovering Brazilian Ingredients with Alex Atala, Phaidon publisher.
- Fluiditá, with Massimiliano and Rafaelle Alajmo, Alajmo publisher.
- 3, with Quique DaCosta, Pinguin Randon House publisher. Sergio was awarded the “Grand Prix de la Photographie du Tourisme Gastronomique” at the Festival International de la Photographie in Paris in 2011, and 2010 Grand Prix du Public.
