Ouvert en 1935, le camp de Rivesaltes a d’abord «accueilli» les réfugiés espagnols fuyant la guerre civile. Quelques années plus tard se fut au tour des Harkis d’être internés dans des conditions sanitaires terribles. Après plusieurs années d’abandon et sous l’impulsion d’associations de survivants, le camp fut classé comme mémorial national et un musée y a été inauguré en 2015.
