Biographie
Born in 1955 in Le Faouët (Morbihan). Lives and works in Marseille. Represented by Les Douches Gallery, Paris. His works are regularly exhibited in France and abroad, and are part of public and private collections. In 2009, he was nominated for a Discovery Prize at the Rencontres d'Arles. For fifteen years, he has devoted himself to peri-urban landscapes in France and abroad. The photographic work of André Mérian shows an interest for what builds our landscape every day. Whether capturing peripheral areas, shopping centers, architectures of human organization, inhabited spaces, building sites or luminous screens in the public environment, his photographs try to freeze what stands around everyone, like the average, banal decor of everyday life. Beyond the frontier of the cities, the architecture takes on a new dimension, where the dummy, the temporary and the dismountable take over. The result is confusing, and questions us about these spaces that are universalizing on the fate reserved for the man in this aesthetics of the chaos, his works question us on the limit of the objectivity and the subjectivity.
