Biographie
Maya Beano (b.1991) is a British/Jordanian artist and scientist who grew up in the bustling capital of Jordan. She speaks several languages and has enjoyed living in a number of cities since her childhood. Her favourite places in the world are wherever she is closest to nature. Her interest in photography started at a very early age, but she chose to focus on her love for science at school and at university. After graduating from the University of Cambridge in 2013 with a bachelor’s and master’s in Natural Sciences, she picked up a film camera and started documenting her journeys near and far. Her photos explore the connection between humans and nature, with a particular emphasis on mood, surreal moments and the sublime. Her work is heavily influenced by the paintings of the Romantic era and combines feelings of awe and nostalgia. She captures vast landscapes with a sense of intimacy and features her closest friends in many of the photos.
Maya’s photos have been featured in many online and print publications internationally including Yen Magazine, If You Leave, The Adventure Handbook, Oh Comely Magazine, Lomography Magazine and Kwerfeldein Magazine. Her work has been exhibited in Cambridge, London and Australia. Maya currently works as a scientist in oncology in Cambridge, UK, and she dedicates all of her free time to her photography projects.
