Biography

Marta Soul (Madrid, 1973) is a Spanish visual artist currently living in Sheffield. She produces visual reflections on the interactions between different cultural topics, like the aesthetics of the appearance, the concept of success and the social behaviours.

Marta’s work has recently been shown at East Meets West program (QUAD, Derby; and Birmingham Museum&Art Gallery, 2016).  

Her Welljob series has also been exhibited at La Fabrica (Madrid, 2015) and in 2014 a solo exhibition covered her whole trajectory, organised by Centro de Arte Alcobendas (Madrid, Spain). Entreacto was part of PHotoEspaña 2013 festival, Wellhome was presented as a solo exhibition both at Espai Visor (Valencia, 2007) and at the Photography Centre of University of Salamanca (2009). Idilios has also been solo exhibited at Kopeikin Gallery (Los Angeles, 2011) and Guatephoto Festival (Guatemala City, 2012).

She has achieved a number of awards and art grants since 2003, like AENA Foundation (2011) Photography Award, Fotopress07 (2007) Grant and Best Foreign Photographer Award in Pingyao International Photography Festival (2008). Selected samples of her artwork are included in private collections located in USA and Spain, as well as public institutions and museums like Alcobendas Art Centre in Madrid, Hubei Museum in China, University of Cadiz, and La Caixa Foundation, between others. She is represented by Kopeikin Gallery (Los Angeles), Alberto Cornejo Gallery (Spain) and Black Eye Gallery (Sydney, Australia). 

Her work has been published in El Pais, La Repubblica, Times Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, Harper’s Bazaar, Matador and Io Donna (between others).
