Biography

   
Elsa Zylberstein made her debut as an actress in Van Gogh, a master piece by Pialat in which she played a prostitute called Cathy. She received the "Michel Simon Prize" in 1992 for her performance and was nominated for the first time for "César Award for Most Promising Actress." She was then awarded twice for her performance in the movies Beau Fixe (directed by Christian Vincent) and Mina Tannenbaum (directed by Martine Dugowson). She also received the "Romy Schneider Prize" for her role in Mina Tannenbaum. She inspired young directors such as Pascale Bailly, Diane Bertrand (Un Samedi soir sur la Terre) and especially Martine Dugowson. She became Martine Dugowson's favorite actress and acted in Portraits chinois and Les fantômes de Louba.
 
She then accepted a role in the comedy Tenue correcte exigée by Philippe Lioret and in the beautiful comedy L'Homme est une femme comme les autres by Jean-Jacques Zilbermann. Elsa met the great director Raoul Ruiz and acted in four of his films including Le temps retrouvé about Proust, Ce jour-là with Bernard Giraudeau - a movie selected for the Cannes Film Festival. Truly versatile, she has performed various roles: she starred in a comedy by Akerman, appeared in another starring Kad Merad : J'invente rien (by Michel Leclerc 2006), and played a role in a very personal adaptation of a novel by Christine Angot Pourquoi (pas) le Brésil directed by Laetitia Masson. In 2009, she won a "César Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for her performance in Il y a longtemps que je t'aime by Philippe Claudel - a movie presented at the Berlin Film Festival. That same year, she played in La Fabrique des sentiments by Jean-Marc Moutout which was also presented in Berlin. She then appeared in Un baiser papillon by Karine Silla before playing in two comedies: Les Tribulations d'une caissière from Pierre Rambaldi and Plan de table by Christelle Raynal with Franck Dubosc, Andrée Lamy. She received the Award for Best Actress for her performance in Plan de table at the Alpes D'Huez Film Festival.
 
In theater, she played in Pirandello's Six personnages en quête d'auteur by J.Lavelli, La preuve by David Auburn directed by Bernard Murat, Le malin plaisir by David Hare and more recently in Le démon d'Hannah.
