This first retrospective devoted in France to Eva Aeppli invites you to discover the gestation of her sewn work, which expresses the apogee of her art. In his "sentimental museum", like the one created by Daniel Spoerri at the Center Pompidou in 1977, his works dialogue with those of his close circle, his fantasized influences but also his successors. We come across the creations of Jean Tinguely, Niki de Saint Phalle, Louise Bourgeois, Annette Messager and even Sarah Lucas, underlining how much the art of the Swiss sculptor continues to exert a significant influence on the contemporary scene. Each of his textile figures – striking with their silent cries, their pure yet eminently expressive features, their scars drawn by the seams – overwhelms the viewer with ambivalent feelings, this confrontation not leaving him unscathed. Directed by Jean Kalman, the journey will echo the dualities that run through the artist's work and life.
